I have never experienced loss and pain like you have… but I can relate to the fear of being still and what that will bring up in me. When I first got sober 7 years ago I could not yet face the trail of destruction I had left behind so I walked… miles upon miles a day. I made it my thing. I walked to quiet my mind and exhaust my body so that I didn’t have to face the flood of emotions that came crashing down on me… but eventually I slowed my pace, I began to write, and I began to heal, one step at a time. Thank you for sharing a small piece of your journey—we are all stronger for having read your truth. With love, Louise 💜
Such a wonderful piece. I am a doer who also fears giving up the avoidance it sometimes provides. It was brave of you to face that so soon after your son's transition. I'm glad it was so healing for you, and absolutely believe that the songs were a sign.
I sometimes think it was insensitive of me to invite you to the University of Northern Colorado so soon after Austen's transition. I so love your poems and was deeply grateful you said yes. My students were grateful too.
